Coves and Beaches
The unspoilt Natural Park of Cabo de Gata.
CALA DE EN MEDIO
This is a small, secluded beach in the natural park, at the outlet of the Rambla de la Cala, which is flanked by the Cerro del Cuartel (Barracks Hill) and the Cerro de la Higuera (Fig Tree Hill).
The complexity of its access - which can only be made from the sea or on foot from Agua Amarga or from the road to Cala del Plomo, along a narrow path - makes this isolated cove made of dark but bright sand an excellent place for the practice of nudism and scuba diving.
You can plan your own personalised route to En Medio Cove, contact us for more information.
CALA DEL PLOMO
A small, secluded, fine sand cove, framed by fossilised dunes, with calm, shallow waters and easy access by sea or on foot along an 8 km footpath.
CALA SAN PEDRO
This cove with its own spring has become an oasis in the arid lands of the park. Many visitors use its natural mud grotto, which has therapeutic properties for the skin.
Access to San Pedro Cove.
Cala San Pedro can be reached on foot (about an hour and a half from Las Negras) visit the cove without stopping with our excursion.
CALA HERNÁNDEZ
Located on the path that stretches from Las Negras to Cala de San Pedro, this cove is shaped by the cliffs below the Cerro Negro (Black Hill) that plunge into the sea. Access by land is not recommended, given the danger posed by its steep and rocky paths. It is more feasible to reach it by sea.
LAS NEGRAS
Discover one of the best areas of Cabo de Gata, home to the most bohemian spirit of the Park. A beautiful village of fishing and maritime tradition.
Las Negras is a Spanish village and district pertaining to the municipality of Níjar, in the province of Almería, Andalusia.
Its 350 inhabitants live inside the natural park of Cabo de Gata-Níjar, situated at about 50 km from the provincial capital, Almería.
Las Negras Beach and Coves. The settlement of Las Negras is nestled between the cape known as El Puntón and the cliff known as Cerro Negro. The two tiny coves that make up the coastline of this village are protected by a natural barrier of rocks, known as Las Esperillas, so that the strong easterly storms are somewhat mitigated by the presence of this barrier. This landform only becomes exposed at low tide.
On the Cerro Negro foothills there are other virgin coves and caves, where scuba diving is highly recommended: Hernández Cove and La Piedra Colorá.
A walk into the southernmost boundaries will take us to Peñón del Gitano and Caleta del Cuervo, where we can find Camping La Caleta.
Hotel and catering trade. There is currently a wide variety of hotels and accommodation on offer, with hotels up to 4 stars, hostels, private tourist accommodation and campsites, as well as a variety of bars and restaurants open all year round, enabling Las Negras to offer an important and high quality tourist service, with live music and a wide culinary selection.
There are also several convenience shops, a chemist's shop and a centre for active and maritime tourism activities.
CUEVA DE LAS PALOMAS
A breathtaking cave located between Las Negras and El Playazo, a fabulous experience for the visitor, with see-through waters and meandering rocks.
CALA DEL CUERVO
An isolated cove with a 130 m long beach and wonderful golden sand, with very little human activity and very close to a campsite.
PLAYA DEL PLAYAZO Y CASTILLO
A beach which belongs to the town of Rodalquilar, 3 km from the village. As its name indicates, it is one of the widest beaches in the Natural Park, 400 m. long. Featuring fine golden sand and crystal clear waters, it also contains several rock formations on the sides that have formed beautiful natural pools and very attractive places to indulge in snorkelling.
In addition, its castle, Batería de San Ramón, is an Asset of Cultural Interest, located on the north side of the beach. It is a Renaissance-style fortress, built for four cannons in 1764, guarding the coastline.
CALA EL BERGATÍN
A small paradisiacal cove located near the Playazo, wedged between two high mountains. As it belongs to the Ecological Protection Zone of La Polacra, it allows no other construction to be in sight, turning it into an almost private cove.
PUNTA DE LA POLACRA
Here there is a small beach, located under the Punta de la Polacra lighthouse.
